Daily Challenge Check-in: October 29, 2015

Words/Time: 40 minutes working on the outline and fleshing out some characters for my 2015 NaNoNovel. I’m bothered by how unprepared I still am, with only 2 days until NaNo starts. For now, I think I’ll set aside the outlining and focus on the characterization. I have so many similar-level minor characters that I need to keep straight (for myself and for the reader) so I’m going to work on making them each unique. I’ve been known to start with a partial outline and work on it during the day when I couldn’t be writing anyway; that’s likely what I’ll be doing this year. Only problem is, this being a mystery novel, I need to have my clues and certain events straight before I can do much writing. So basically, I have a lot I still need to do before midnight comes on Saturday.

  1. There’s still plenty of time. And don’t forget the clocks change Sunday. Take it one step at a time. Even if that means writing a little, planning more, writing a little, planning some more… Don’t stress over it. I know the feeling ad I’m trying not to stress myself.

    • I’ve been toying with the idea of doing 50k on day one. This is the last chance I’ll have at it until NaNo falls on a weekend again in 5 years. But I’d failed to realize that if I chose to do that, I would actually need to have as much of my planning done before tomorrow night, instead of doing some as I go. I’ve decided to go halfway and shoot for 25k on Nov 1, but I’m still going to need a good amount of the outline done. Otherwise I’ll end up having my characters ramble on about everyday life at a rendezvous. Which could be fun, don’t get me wrong, but not really helpful.
